Caring, attentive, friendly staff
Summary: Caring, attentive, friendly staff
I had a short outpatient operation at Aintree recently and I wanted to give feedback on the truly excellent treatment I received from every member of staff, from the nurse who checked me in (and offered me paracetamol when I mentioned my hunger headache), to the anaesthetist and surgeon who took the time to actually listen to me and answer my many questions, right through to the people on the post-op ward who were kind and caring, giving me extra heated blankets to stop me shaking and even walking me to my (husband's) car. Although I was waiting for several hours without food, I didn't feel forgotten as I was given periodic updates, and, although I was nervous and intimidated walking into the operating theatre to a crowd of people, every person I met from start to finish, made an effort to put me at ease and look after me. I even called the ward afterwards with a question which required someone to find a doctor, but was answered quickly and without fuss. As a late-diagnosed autistic person, I felt my questions, concerns, and needs were not only met, but met just as anyone else's would be: I wasn't made to feel silly, difficult, or a burden for asking so many questions, and I didn't feel patronised by well-meaning but uninformed or ignorant comments. I cannot overstate what a positive effect having my "quirks" (no doubt amplified by my nervousness) accepted like this had on my experience, and can only hope every organisation eventually follows your lead in how they treat neurodivergent people. I genuinely can't thank you all enough for how much you helped me.
