Re: Rawson Road surgery and Broadgreen Hospital and Renacres
I went to my GP, Aug 2023. They were good. Patchs worked great and I got an appointment straight away, face-to-face for the following week as requested.
I seen the doctor and he made a referral for me to the NHS for both my knees.
Within a couple of days I received a phone call to say Aintree don't do it and I could go to Broadgreen, Spire or Renacres. I chose Renacres. They then phoned back within a few days for an appointment the following week - September 2023.
The consultant at Renacres was fabulous and so lovely. He said he could not do the operation because my BMI was too high and they did not have consultant cover overnight. He said Broadgreen could do it no problem and he wrote to them at Broadgreen.
I then did not hear anything and wondered if I was on a list. My daughter managed to find out who the consultant was and contacted them. I then got an appointment January 2024.
I went to the appointment. The consultant was so rude. When we went into his room he did not take his eyes from his computer screen or speak to us. My daughter said lets just sit here on the chairs that were away from him. A nurse then came in and she didn't speak either. She started getting the scales ready so I got up and got on them.
The nurse said out loud what the scales showed and he then spoke an said 'There is nothing I can do for you' and that was it, he didn't add anything else. I asked him ' Why is that'? He replied to say your BMI is too high. I asked what I would have to lose and he just asked what did the nurse say. I told him I couldn't remember and he told me to get back on the scales. He then came up with a figure for me to lose.
I asked him what happens now. He said I will write to your GP. My daughter told him what the consultant had said at Renacres, but he did not seem to like being told this. He said to me 'I do not believe that, He said (referring to himself) I could go the gym and then eat a mars bar and put the weight back on'. He went on to say me 'not being able to lose weight had nothing to do with me not being mobile, it was about eating mountains of pasta'.
I felt he was accusing me. I said ' I don't eat mountains of pasta, he just gave me a dirty look.
The Renacres consultant was so nice to me and this consultant was so rude and arrogant. It was good that I had my daughter with me as I was so upset I would not have been able to drive home. The letter he wrote to my GP just said he strongly advised that I lose weight and removed me from the list.
The nurse at my GP surgery was so good. She called for me to come in and see her to check that I was ok. She is now referring me to occupational health and asked what she can do to help me
