Waiting 5 hours on very uncomfortable seats

Summary: Waiting 5 hours on very uncomfortable seats

We were told to go to Southport A & E after an MRI scan at another hospital due to what was found. My husband was in pain and was triaged straight away and assessed within the hour but the consultant/ nurse didn't know what to do and went off to ring the neurology department for advice. Communication was poor and we were left waiting with no updates on orange plastic uncomfortable chairs for 5 hours when my husband has a back injury and was in pain. We were then seen in the hospital corridor whilst standing with our coats and bags. The Dr was not going to do anything but when asked, my husband said he was in a lot of pain and so was moved for an hour to a comfy seat/ area and given morphine, monitored, and then discharged with morphine. Staff were friendly but understaffed, toilets were not cleaned during this time. The refreshments trolley came and offered free water & juice in the first hour(you had to pay for food) but then did not visit again and I did not want to leave the area in case I missed the Dr. Ended up with a sandwich from the cafe (there weren't many left) A & E was busy with the same people waiting for a long time. Staff said we should not have been told to go to A & E by another hospital.
